She went on to spend more than a decade in Washington, D.C.,&nbsp;working under the Obama, Biden, and Trump administrations to provide <strong>public safety and disaster preparedness</strong> initiatives that <strong>strengthened local communities while protecting taxpayer dollars.&nbsp;</strong>Her work delivered practical results through responsible leadership and effective management.</p><p>In 2017, Rebecca returned home to New Hampshire to raise her family and invest in the community she loves. <strong>She lives in Sutton, works as a research scientist studying risk and community resilience, and serves on the Kearsarge Regional School District Municipal Budget Committee,</strong> where she helps ensure responsible stewardship of local tax dollars while supporting strong public schools.</p><p>Rebecca and her family enjoy spending time outdoors in New Hampshire’s lakes and mountains, and she is committed to building a more affordable, responsible future for the communities of Senate District 7.</p>

We need volunteers to help organize locations, coordinate schedules, and spread the word in their communities. <p>Every January, I join my neighbors at our local school district annual meeting. We debate budgets, ask tough questions and vote on what we believe our children’s education is worth.</p><p>In 2025, more than 1,500 people packed in the Kearsarge Regional School District’s annual Deliberative Session. It was the largest turnout anyone could remember. One question dominated: Should we cap school spending?</p><p>The answer wasn’t close: <strong>92% of voters rejected the proposal.</strong></p>

<h4>Opinion: The state shifted the cost. Homeowners got the bill.</h4>

<p>It is time for a frugal and judicious mindset that is more reasonable and less ideological in Concord. <strong>Rebecca Harned can bring such a level-headed and no-nonsense approach.</strong></p>

<h2>Rebecca Harned Announces Campaign for New Hampshire Senate District 7</h2><p><strong>SUTTON, NH</strong> — Rebecca Harned, a working mom, research scientist, and member of the Kearsarge Regional School District Municipal Budget Committee, today announced her campaign for New Hampshire State Senate in District 7, pledging to focus on lowering costs for families and bringing responsible leadership back to Concord.</p><p>Harned, who lives in Sutton with her family, said she is running because too many Granite State families are feeling squeezed by rising costs while state leaders fail to address the pressures facing local communities.</p><p>“I hear from families all across Senate District 7: it’s getting harder,” said Harned. “It’s harder to afford a home. Harder to keep up with property taxes. Harder for young families to get started. Harder for working families to afford childcare… much less buy their first home. Harder for young people to launch into careers paying a livable wage.</p><p>Harned, who lives in Sutton with her family, emphasized that affordability will be the central focus of her campaign.</p><p>“This race is about affordability and responsibility,” Harned said. “It is about building a better New Hampshire."</p><p>A graduate of Colby-Sawyer College, Harned put herself through school with need-based financial aid and two jobs before earning her master’s degree. She later spent more than a decade in Washington, D.C., working on public safety and disaster preparedness initiatives under the Obama, Biden, and Trump administrations.</p><p>“My job was to create efficiencies, modernize systems, protect taxpayer dollars, and deliver measurable results,” Harned said. “Not ideology. Results. And that’s what I believe our district deserves.”</p><p>Harned returned to New Hampshire in 2017 to raise her family and invest in the community she calls home. In addition to her work as a research scientist studying risk and resilience, she serves on the Kearsarge Regional School District Municipal Budget Committee.</p><p>“As I serve on the Kearsarge Regional School District Municipal Budget Committee, I see these pressures up close. We work carefully, line by line, to make sure taxpayer dollars are used responsibly, because we know every increase shows up on our property tax bill. We know that behind every budget decision is a family trying to make ends meet,” Harned said. “Responsible leadership means being honest about what’s working—and what’s hurting our communities.”</p><p>Harned said her campaign will focus on lowering pressure on property taxpayers, making housing more attainable, supporting local schools, and protecting seniors from being priced out of their communities.</p><p>“Now is the time to elevate the quality of life for every Granite Stater,” Harned said. “Let’s protect our communities, make our hard work count, and keep New Hampshire the place we are proud to call our home.”</p><p>Sutton Selectboard member Nancy Glynn praised Harned’s leadership and commitment to local communities.</p><p>“Rebecca shares the values that define this district: common sense, fiscal responsibility, and service, said Glynn.
